Building No. 47 UPOL – “Building modifications and extension of building No. 47 – Palacký University in Olomouc”
Building No. 47 of the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc underwent major building modifications. The building located in the Olomouc-Holice district was divided into a section for teaching and self-study and multifunctional spaces.
Until recently, rooms served mainly to biological disciplines students in the building located at the entrance to the UPOL Faculty of Science campus. Thanks to the reconstruction, in which we took a significant part, new multifunctional spaces were created.
The new rooms are located in the northeastern part of the building. The entrance hall can be used as a cloakroom in the future. It is followed by a cloakroom for employees and sanitary facilities. The essential element is the new lounge room. We tore down the partitions and fillings of the openings in the premises and removed the floors’ tread layers. We built new internal partitions from ceramic blocks, and we gave rise to the acoustic larch ceiling becoming a significant new element. We covered the floors with trowel fillers. We provided ventilation of the premises with a recuperation unit.
However, other parts of building no. 47 were also changed. We rebuilt the first above-ground floor and the classrooms and auditoriums wing. The faculty wanted to modernize and enhance the facilities for students. Besides, a so-called co-work space has been added, allowing students to study or work on projects together.
The newly built part of the southern extension respects the already grown greenery and was thus dispositionally adapted accordingly. The freshly built seminar rooms and spaces for individual study are, together with the glazed entrances, literally permeated with greenery. For all the materials used, we placed emphasis primarily on naturalness and harmony. A regular grid of larch wood on the supporting steel columns and a continuous lamella larch acoustic ceiling unite the individual spaces. Together with the earthy industrial touch of the concrete trowel on the walls and the anthracite trowel fillers on the floors, blur the line between the interior and exterior. The glazed facades’ aluminum surfaces are then tuned to a bronze touch, and in places, they are complemented by a natural stone cladding.
