PALACKY UNIVERSITY SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PARK IN OLOMOUC
A new Science and Technology Park has been built near the Faculty of Law and Natural Sciences of Palacký University in Olomouc and university dormitories. The modern building will serve the university as a space where science meets practice. In addition to offices and laboratories, you can also find here, for example, a coworking center or the headquarters of the Digi2Health Digital Innovation Hub
During the summer, we completed the construction of a new Science and Technology Park under Palacký University. The implementation corresponds to the established functional use (area of public equipment) – the building of Palacký University Science and Technology Park object can be considered beneficial in terms of using the existing unused area and completing a compact university unit (campus).
The multi-functional building was built on the site of a multi-functional building with a hall built in 1987 for the needs of the Czechoslovak Railways. For many years, however, the area was unused, and the original buildings were demolished to make way for the modern Envelope Hub. A decorative ceramic wall by the prominent ceramicist Imrich Vanek and his wife Olga was preserved as a memory of the original objects.
The object comprises the lapidary masses of two wings that grow from a joint base. The simple horizontal lines of the two four-story wings are intersected by verticals of irregular “grown” shapes formed by a living green facade – the building thus symbolically connects to the green recreational belt along the Morava River and, together with the re-use of rainwater for irrigation of the green facades, contributes to the creation of sustainable architecture and user-friendly urban space. The vertical living vegetation facades are made up of almost 17 thousand plants. Between the two tracts (wings), there is a recessed mass consisting of a vertical communication core and glazed connecting corridors, through which you can see the recreational part of the roof on the 2nd-floor level (residential roof above the garages on the 1st-floor). This inner block creates a relaxation zone for the building’s users and enhances the view from the interior offices and laboratories located in the building. There are parking spaces for building users on the ground floor, technical facilities, and commercial spaces.
The building has 35 offices and laboratories, a coworking center with 28 workplaces, two outdoor atria, parking for 50 cars, and a charging station for electric vehicles. A cafe should soon open in the left wing of the building.
