The repository of the Museum of East Bohemia in Pardubice
We helped the Museum of East Bohemia in Pardubice to acquire a new depository for its collections. We tore down the building of the former dining room and built a brand new building to meet the requirements of a modern repository.
The new two-storey repository located on the premises of the former student dorms respects the pavilion character and thus integrates naturally into the existing set of buildings. It will serve the museum both for storing collections and for admitting individual findings, their decontamination, treatment and preparation for storage. Even though up to four museum employees can work here, the repository will not serve as a permanent workplace.
The overall intention was to create the impression of a unconquerable fortress. This has been achieved both by lining with pre-oxidized weathering steel product (corten), and by the absence of any windows and openings from the three sides of the building. On the other hand, in the connecting corridor we achieved the impression of a subtle park colonnade by removing the walls and windows.
Along with the construction of the new building, we also repaired the existing roads on the premises and completed a suitable driveway to the repository.
