CTU in Prague – LOP Monoblock in Dejvice

The facade of the monoblock of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague has long been outdated. Therefore it deserved a complete renovation.

The implementation was completed in 2015

The campus of the CTU in Prague – Dejvice is located in the immediate vicinity of the urban conservation area, and hundreds of students attend it daily. This puts high demands on theoverall look and the functionality of the buildingfor which the precision of the façade is crucial.

However, in the case of the monoblock of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, technically and aesthetically speaking, it has been long overdue. That is why we had to start acomplete renovation of the building envelope.

Thepoor condition of the claddingcaused insufficient thermal insulation of the buildings, as well as leaks of the rainwater. The windows had also been old. The goal of the reconstruction was to return the monoblock, in which two faculties of the oldest civilian technical university in Central Europe are housed, its full functionality, as well as a dignified appearance.

Technically, this meant to rebuild the building envelope in such a way as to comply with today’s standards (that is, for example: sufficient mineral foamthermal insulation, highresistance to noise, stability, fire safety, orlow energy intensity). But we also remembered the overall exterior impression: colorful surface design (as well as used materials) corresponds to the original design of the building – the ratio of colors used in the glass exterior mosaic was the same as in the original facade.
