The implementation was completed in 2020
The corner building in Kateřinská Street in Olomouc dates back to the end of the 19th century into the historicism. However, the neo-Gothic façade, including the corner helmet, was removed over time. As part of the recent renovation, we tried to return references to the original architecture of the building sensitively. From the ceiling level of the 1st floor to the floor level of the 4th floor, we have added a new bay window.
In this case, the bay window references the galleries of apartment buildings and the time when the building was built. The cladding of the bay window is divided by opening windows of a format similar to the courtyard facade of the house. The roof of the bay window is flat, designed as a walkable balcony.
We also created a new entrance to the corner and canceled the original one. In addition, we added a corner shield in the form of a decorative helmet. The remaining modifications of the exterior had the nature of a conservative reconstruction of the historic building.
The building served as a university dormitory for a long time. Now it houses classrooms and offices of the UPOL Faculty of Arts. The staircase, which is the main road of the building, underwent the most extensive internal changes. The walls of the staircase are equipped with glass openings that bring light. We added lighted corridors and common areas of the faculty around the staircase. We also fundamentally renovated the attic and basement. The aim was to unify the entire building and, even though the original neo-Gothic facades and interiors are irretrievably gone, to bring the building to the state of architectural superiority.
