Reconstruction of the University Canteen – Palacký University in Olomouc

The canteen of Palacký University in Olomouc, which is part of the premises of Šmeral’s Halls of Residence and 17. listopadu Halls of Residence, has recently undergone a complete reconstruction. The equipment and layout of the three-story building had no longer met the requirements of a modern catering facility. The kitchen equipment had already exhibited frequent failure rates and its life span, the spatial dispositions had required additional effort in cooking and serving meals, and the building had not been equipped for students with disabilities.
In addition to the reconstruction of the cooking kitchen and the preparation room, we built an entirely new staircase for the staff on the northeast facade. The staircase connects all three floors and makes the building more easily accessible for the employees. At the same time, several sub-staircases between original floors were replaced, which did not interconnect and fragmented the entire space. We also built a vertical platform for persons with disabilities so that they can now eat right upstairs where the food dispensing area and the dining hall are. The extensive reconstruction also touched the dining room itself and the food dispensing area. Thanks to the new layouts, the dining room has become much more comfortable for its visitors.
